The same E-RIDE-certified curriculum we teach in the classroom, rebuilt as 24 guided video lessons your rider can work through from home — and finish with the same certification.
Preview the online course
Every slide in the online course is narrated in plain language by an instructor voice, with a speed control for faster learners. Riders can't skip ahead until they've heard the whole slide, so nothing gets clicked past.
Module 2 · Minnesota law
Class 1, 2, and 3 — and why it matters
Instructor narration
“Before we talk about where you can ride, we have to talk about what you're riding. In Minnesota, e-bikes come in three classes, and the class you're on decides which paths and trails are legal for you. Knowing your class is the first step to riding legally.”
Sample preview — enrolled riders hear the full narration on every slide.

Defensive strategy
Blind spots, intersection judgment, and real-world traffic scenarios — the same scenario analysis as our courses.

Minnesota traffic law
Right-of-way rules, sign recognition, and Class 1–3 e-bike ordinances, tailored to young riders.

E-RIDE certification
Graduates earn the same industry-benchmark E-RIDE Certification as our in-person students.
After the final exam
When a learner passes, they can download their own E-RIDE Certificate of Completion as a PDF. Here’s a sample of what they’ll earn.

The curriculum
Each module builds on the last, moving from the machine itself to the law, then to reading traffic and making defensive decisions under pressure.
E-bike classes, controls, and the pre-ride safety check.
Module slides
A visual walk-through of e-bike classes, key parts, brakes and battery care, and the 60-second pre-ride check.
Class 1, 2 and 3 explained
What separates pedal-assist from throttle bikes, how fast each class goes, and which one your rider is actually on.
Controls, brakes and battery basics
Throttle feel, brake bias, and how battery weight changes the way an e-bike handles at speed.
The 60-second pre-ride check
Tires, brakes, lights, and charge — the habit that prevents most roadside trouble.
Module knowledge check
Answer all five questions. You need 70% or better to pass — you can retake it as many times as you like.
Ordinances, sidewalks, trails, and right of way.
Module slides
A visual walk-through of Minnesota e-bike rules: classes and ages, where riding is allowed, right of way, stops and signals.
Minnesota e-bike law for young riders
Age rules, helmet expectations, and what the statute says about each class of e-bike.
Sidewalks, bike lanes and trails
Where riding is allowed, where it isn't, and how local ordinances change the answer.
Right of way, stops and signals
Four-way stops, crosswalks, and the hand signals every rider is expected to use.

Signs, signals, intersections, and blind spots.
Module slides
A visual walk-through of reading the road: signs and signals, intersections, turning traffic, blind spots and being seen.
Sign and signal recognition
Shapes, colors, and the signs riders most often miss.
Intersections and turning traffic
Why left-turning cars are the single biggest risk, and how to position for them.
Blind spots and being seen
Driver sightlines, mirrors, lighting, and eye contact that actually works.
Module knowledge check

Stopping distance, scanning, and escape routes.
Module slides
A visual walk-through of defensive riding: stopping distance, scan-predict-decide, common hazards, escape routes and emergency braking.
The physics of stopping distance
Speed, weight, and surface — why an e-bike needs more room than a pedal bike.
Scanning and hazard prediction
A repeatable scanning pattern for driveways, parked cars, and opening doors.
Escape routes and emergency braking
Choosing an out before you need it, and braking hard without losing the front wheel.
Module knowledge check
Answer all five questions. You need 70% or better to pass — you can retake it as many times as you like.
Clothing choices, risk psychology, and the final review.
Module slides
A visual walk-through of gear and judgment: helmet fit, visibility, teen risk-taking, rider ground rules and E-RIDE certification.
Helmets and clothing that protect
Fit, visibility, and the clothing choices that genuinely change outcomes in a crash.
The psychology of pre-teen and teen risk-taking
Peer pressure, speed temptation, and decision-making strategies that hold up.

How long does the online course take?
About 3 hours of lessons, split into short segments your rider can finish over several sittings.
Is the certification the same as the classroom course?
Yes. Online graduates earn the same E-RIDE Certification, certificate, and wallet card as our in-person students.
Can a parent watch along?
Absolutely — we encourage it. The lessons are written so parents and riders can talk through each scenario together.
Does anyone ride an e-bike during the course?
No. The course is entirely instructional. Moving to physical operation stays a coached activity between student and parent.
